A Lump of Clay - Who's in control here anyway?

You turn things upside down,
as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!
Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,
“You did not make me”?
Can the pot say to the potter,
“You know nothing”?
Isaiah 29:16

But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God?
“Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,
‘Why did you make me like this?’”
Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay
some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
Romans 9:20-21

Wonderful verses! My mother was a potter, and I've often reflected on the analogies between God/potter and us/clay.

Good reminder when I as wishing for a different talent or a different body! I'm also reminded that the jars made for special purpose may be admired more, but the one for common purpose is used more!

We may have God to form us and smoothe us out when we get our lumps and bumps and dents. Thank God that he can do that. Thanks be to God who gives us the free will to have bumps that need to be smoothed out so we can appreciate the bumps!

Special purposes or common use--I'm here for the Potter to use.
