In need of Titus 2 advice!

Oh this morning did not go well!!! Pick any of the following reasons:
  1. I had cramps!
  2. I was fasting because I needed my blood drawn!
  3. I did not start out my day with God and His Word!
  4. I was tired!
  5. No COFFEE!

So my son who lately has been coming upstairs all dressed did the same today. Now I have looked at him before and decided to keep my mouth shut even though the pants were to his ankles and the shirts were either short sleeved (we live in Michigan), they seemed to small or not a thing matched. But today I pick to tell him 5 minutes before we had to leave (I had to bet the elderly to be first in line to get my blood drawn and get the kids to school and make a 9:00 meeting), that I wanted him to change his clothes because his pants were to short! They had a hole in the knee! and his shirt was too Small! A small world war occured! He said I could disown him! He cried, I spouted! No body was having fun!

Feeling like a loser, bad mom today! We made up before we left the driveway, BUT!

Can you say "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING"! So mothers of sons who don't care what they look like, what would you have done?

HELP!

I'm not a mom... but look at my brother. He doesn't match, wears old man's pants, is wrinkled, wears the same thing 3 days in a row....and on and on and on. My parents have given up on him, simply because he doesn't care what he looks like. We're hoping that one of his friends will tell him how ridiculous he looks and that he'll listen to them!

I have long ago given up on the clothing battle in the morning (except for church and then it depends on how much fight I have in me that particular morning). Here are a few tips that work for me...

The kids need to lay out their clothes for the next day as part of their after school chores. Then no one is rushed into making poor choices due to time restraints.

I remove clothes that I don't "approve" of when they come through the laundry. - Out of sight, out of mind.

I remind myself daily that their clothing selection doesn't reflect on me it reflects on them and it is only clothes. (As long as everything is properly covered)

Libby wears t-shirts all the time in the winter. I think she is crazy but if it doesn't bother her why should it bother me. If they are cold they will put something on.

I hope your day is getting better.

I had this problem with Arianna too so we started picking out clothes the night before so it was 1 less thing to fight about in the morning!

This is too funny! Did anyone notice the MOTIVATIONS FOR MOMS on my blog today! Maybe I should read it! It says "Choose your battles wisely ~give patience where patience is due and continually ask God for wisdom in discipline". O.K. so maybe my eyes weren't Open this morning!

Hi! Just wanted to drop in! Since I am new to your site, I do not know his age. But, Jennifer is right on target. & so are you! I saw your comment about "picking your battles" and timing & technique is a big part of the whole selection process for me anyway! But, anytime you can avoid the whole thing (by implementing some of Jennifer's suggestions, well, that's just smart stuff!

We can't win every time! But it sounds like you had a very successful morning; 1) you stood your ground, 2)you made up! 3)You have a better plan for next time! (discretely cleaning out that wardrobe)

Sounds like a very successful morning to me!

One time I let my son, (now age 20) who was in pre-school at the time, wear his batman shirt w/cape to school all three days! It was a nightmare to take the thing off the kid, he would change into his batman pjs though.

I noticed your motivation for Mom's. Pretty funny, but so true. I also had the clothes laid out the night before. It does save some morning hassles. Andy was always really easy going, so he would change without a problem. Laura - that was another story!

Oh my. I've had clothing battles with my (now 21) son too. In your situation, I think would have given him two options... wear this outfit or that. It's feels less "bossy" if they can make a choice.

Just stopped by from Sue's Praise and Coffee. Nice to meet you.

Blessings,

Kimberly,

I can so relate to this post! I just got up and was greeted by my almost seven year old son, dressed in camouflage pants and jacket, a smelly marroon sweatshirt and dirty sox...FOR CHURCH!

AARRGGGHHH!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Blessings, Joanne

Oh man...when it rains it pours, doesn't it?

I have picked this battle a few times, but for the most part (up until Middle School) I stayed out of my boys (yep, I have two) business with the clothing, I really thought...well, you know what, it's not that big of deal.

Now that they are in Middle School it is a whole other story. My 6th grader is a fashion nightmare...God love him, but he just doesn't get it. He loves his nice clothes, but doesn't know how to put them together. SO...every night before bed we discuss tomorrow's outfit and then I lay it out for him. My 8th grader has recovered from his 6th grade ways and is actually quite a sharp dresser (I think he takes longer to groom than I do).

Pick and choose, but try not to pick a fight, ahem battle, when you haven't had coffee and you are fasting. (There's my wise and sage advice).

Melissa
