Question?

O.K. so a thought came to my mind the other day that I want you to answer! Then tomorrow I will give you my response! O.K, Sound good? Are you going to humor me and give me answer? Oh the anticipation is going to drive me nuts! Remember if you have no blogger account you can click on anonymous and answer then just leave your name, or choose not to leave your name, whatever! O.K. here is the question:

When God has given you a call to do something for Him, should that be accompanied by great excitement and anticipation in order to consider it a true calling of God?

This might sounds REALLY simplistic but my answer is no because... do you, as a parent, get that same excited response from your own children when they're told a task to do?

We might not like what God is calling us to because it looks too hard to do or it takes too much time or... or... or... BUT (and this is a "holy but" - I'll have to tell you about that sometime) if God calls you to it (or if you tell your own children to do something) it is in order to make us grow closer with Him and become more mature.

I hope that makes sense. :)

I think it's great if it is but I don't think it's necessary. I have done thinks that I felt called to that left me scared to death! Also - think of Moses. He was called to lead Israel and he was not excited or happy about it at all! I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Yes; however, the excitement and anticipation may not be in the actual THING you are called to do. It IS in knowing you hear His voice, knowing Your Father chose you to accomplish His work, and watching Him do the work through you. Now that IS exciting!!!

I would say that for most people it might, but it is not necessary. It could just as easily be accompanied by overwhelming fear (of the unknown), and a feeling of I'm not qualified to do this. Or it could be a combination of all of the above. I know that I personally tend to feel overwhelmed and fearful as well as excited at the possibilities, and at the same time I'm still unable to truly envision the end result of it all.

Nope...if only it were so. Read every major call narrative from Moses to Isaiah and you will discover that no one wanted to do what God asked them to do. They all fought it. Everyone of them. Consider Jonah! He ran from it! So unfortunately the warm tinglies do not accompany a call of God. The apostles got stoned, mocked beaten, and rejected. They had to find Joy in the struggle and in the persecution. Good luck with that!

I should have formed my thought before reading everyone else's reply. I have mixed thoughts.
I guess I would say no for the same reasons Mari listed. I understand what Amy said but I don't think that means that we will always see it that way even if we should. I think our earthly nature can keep us from being excited about being used by God because we aren't fully relying on him.
So in short... I don't think a true calling by God is always accompanied by excitement or anticipation.

Not necessarily... for me anyway. I would say "peace" or an "inner confirmation" has more often accompanied His calling to do certain things. There's an "assurance" and a "rooted steadfastness," rather than great excitement and anticipation. But I do feel those latter emotions at certain times too! :~D

Ok, I haven't read your most recent post...I want to answer and then see how I did...

I don't think it is always exciting as in 'yippe, woo hoo' exciting. Sometimes he calls us to do things that may not be what we want to do, but are called to do.
